The Grit

Posted in Personal

Success is a wonderful thing. Being able to travel to picturesque places, to experience cultures, to buy purses and shoes one could only dream of, and to transport oneself into a realm of satisfaction. Being able to do highlight reel, to stand in the middle of a busy arena with one’s arm raised, and even besting opponents and winning gold. But what is the cost of success?

Sleepless nights. Tiresome days. Tears and anxieties. Broken joints and strained muscles. Failed pitches and wrong decisions. Meeting deadlines while driving in traffic. Getting beaten up for 6 minutes, standing up, just to get beat up once more. Waking up, rushing, trying to not be late, despite a tough night. Racing hearts and incessant shaking which you don’t even know the origins of. And many more.

Just when you thought you couldn’t – when you thought that you’ve reached your peak, your limit, and your maximum, grit tells you to keep going. It’s that one crazy thing inside you that makes you different from others. That one characteristic that sets apart champions and icons.

Grit is exhausting. But it’s more exhausting to not reach your potential. It’s more exhausting to not be fulfilled.
